Gérondif présent – actif (Basic format)

1.  Take the "nous" form of the verb in the Présent - Indicatif  (See Présent-Indicatif - Actif (Basic Format) for detailed discussion and important exceptions of the Présent - Indicatif.)

                (nous) parlons

2.  Remove the "-ons" ending

                parl ...

3.  Add "-ant" as the verb ending:

                parlant   (This single word form is called the Participe présent - See Participe présent - Actif (Basic Format))

4.  Finally, add "en" in front of the pair:

                en parlant

Exceptions:

Être: The verb "être" becomes "étant", so the Gérondif of "être" is "en étant"  (by being ... /  while being ...)

Avoir:  The verb "avoir" becomes "ayant" so the Gérondif of "avoir" is "en ayant"  (by having ... /  while having ...)

Savoir:  The verb "savoir" becomes "sachant" so the Gérondif of "savoir" is "en sachant"  (by knowing ... / while knowing ...)
